Previous Consulting Projects
Most web pages are a work in progress. This one especially! Here are short descriptions for some of the projects that I've done for clients.ScriptBuilder: create scripts for Luminous OPEN based on interrelated FileMaker templates. A typical script is a few lines of custom code and about 100 lines of code from multiple templates. Creating a new script is trivial: just write the custom code and pick the appropriate template; the script is built automatically. When the templates are changed, all the scripts can be rebuilt at once.
CodeBuilder: automatically rebuild a CodeWarrior project and (with the help of Player to control the non-scriptable help software) the associated help files every night.
Frontier User's Guide: "The manual has been completely reorganized to provide a logical path for learning Frontier. Entire chapters have moved, far-flung discussions of a single topic grouped together, new sections added, and outdated sections deleted. This version of the manual benefits from more than four years of watching people learn Frontier. Nearly every paragraph was reviewed for clarity, removing unnecessary text and inserting notes to emphasize key points." (Released June 1996 as a companion to Frontier 4.0; UserLand has made additional changes with subsequent releases.)
ExpenseTracker: organize data exported from a mainframe accounting system for import to local FileMaker Pro. Synchronize information from multiple files into unified records.
Broadcast FAX: send FAXes from FileMaker after hours.
ProjectServer (tm): FileMaker Pro as a networked, multi-user front-end to MacProject Pro.
PSBatch (tm): Photoshop batch processing with a Finder interface.
MacProject Pro install file: I created an install file (glue scripts, app table) by hand back in the "old days" before AppleScript shipped and before MacProject Pro has a Dictionary. Later I worked with Bill Cheeseman to create a "value added" app table, giving MacProject Pro a structured, Frontier-like scripting interface (instead of its native free-form Object Model interface).
