Chapter 3, Installation
Player is delivered as a single installation file. If a Read Me file is included, please read that first for the most up-to-date information. Installing Player is very simple: double-click on the Player Installer file and follow the prompts. Details follow.System Requirements
Player requires a Macintosh or MacOS-compatible computer running System 7 or later. (Actually, we've only tested Player 1.5 on System 7.5.3 and later, but it should work as far back as System 7.) Player itself only requires 225K of disk space and 300K of RAM. A full installation including example scripts, utilities and electronic documentation may exceed 2 megabytes. We have designed the installer to make it easy to install only what you need.Registration Card
If you didn't purchase directly from PreFab, please send us your serial number and registration information, either by mailing the provided registration card or sending the information via e-mail or FAX. Registered users receive free technical support by e-mail and FAX, see Appendix 4, Technical Support for details.Step 1
Double-click the Player Installer file; you will be presented with a dialog showing the Player license agreement. If you agree to the terms, click "Accept". If not, click "Decline" and promptly return Player to the place you obtained it for a full refund.Installing All Files
When the installation dialog appears, the first item will be highlighted. If you want to install all files, just click the Install button (or type the return or enter key). (Because Player supports both AppleScript and Frontier -- but most customers use either one or the other -- we decided against separate dialogs for "Easy Install" and "Custom Install".)Installing On a Different Disk
To change the disk, select from the pop-up menu at the bottom of the dialog, "Install System items on the following disk".Installing Selected Packages
The installation dialog provides convenient access to many different "packages", groups of related files to be installed together. To get information about the files in any package, simply click on the package name in the list box on the left. The icon and text on the right will change to fit the selection. Note that the disk space required for installation is shown below the descriptive text.To select more than one item, hold the command key while clicking the mouse; to select a group of adjacent items (rare!), hold the shift key while clicking the mouse. The description on the right will disappear, leaving only the total required disk space.
For AppleScript, the most common choice is "Player and AppleScript files".
Custom Installers
Depending on where you got it (e.g. which download option you chose), your installer may include only one option or perhaps a smaller subset of options. The basic operations are the same.
